Lambay Race 2008

Lambay Race

The Ruffian competed in the Lambay race on Saturday June 14'th. We went out to Howth on Friday evening. Martina and Carlos slept on the boat after being entertained on board a large and palatial yacht from Malahide and finding out how the other half live...

Skipper for the race was Martina (helm/bow). Crew were Peter (helm), Daniel (helm/jib/spinnaker), Mags(jib/spinnaker) and Carlos (main).
Mags and Daniel hadn't been on the Ruffian before and both distinguished themselves, with Mags flying the kite while Daniel helmed.

We had brilliant sunshine throghout the race. Winds were light at first but picked up later and we had a good long stretch with the spinnaker behind Lambay Island overtaking a Beneteau on the way (all right, it was only using white sails...)
Kite
There were 173 boats in the race, including 5 Ruffians.
Lambay Race
We came in 5th in our class. taking only 10% longer than the class leader to finish the course.
We finished the day with pints and barbecue in Howth yacht club, which is a step up from the container...
