Starting Penalties
Rule 30 states that any part of your boat cannot be on the course side of the starting line(
ocs) in the one minute before the start.
The committee have three options on how to apply this rule.
30.1 "Round The Ends" rule
If "I" Flag is displayed then any boat that is
OCS must sail around the end of the starting line and start again.
30.2 "20% Rule"
If a Z flag is displayed then any boat
OCS incurs a 20% penalty.
30.3 "Black Flag"
If a black flag is displayed this means death. Any boat
OCS is immediately disqualified.
Results
If you are disqualified under rule 30.3 or 30.1 (failed to restart) your result will be shown as
OCS which means "On Course Side"
Individual Recall
When rule 30.1 is in operation and boat is
OCS the committee boat will raise an "X" flag with one sound. This is an individual recall indicating that the boat needs to restart.
General Recall
If there are a number of boats
OCS and the committee arn't sure who the offenders are they may abandon the start and issue a general recall. "First substitute" is diaplayed with two sound signals. After the First substitute is removed and new 5 minute warning will be issues within one minute.
DMYC Frostbites
Rule 30.1 is deemed in operation event though no flag is flown.
